PTSD and Trauma

Trauma can come from a big, one-time event - like an accident or assault- or from ongoing experiences, like abuse, neglect, or living under constant stress. When your mind and body don’t get the chance to fully process what happened, the effects can stick around, You might notice:

  • Nightmares or flashbacks that bring you right back to the event

  • Feeling jumpy or “on edge” most of the time

  • Trouble sleeping or relaxing

  • Strong emotional reactions that feel out of proportion

  • Feeling numb, disconnected, or distant from people you care about

PTSD happens when these reactions don’t fade with time and start interfering with your daily life. Therapy can help by giving you a safe, supportive place to work through what happened at a pace that feels manageable. Approaches like EMDR can gently help your brain reprocess painful memories so they’re less overwhelming. Talking with someone you trust can make you feel grounded again, supported and more in control of your life.
